In another stellar victory, the Freshman defeated Round Rock 22-4. The matched finished with a strong victory from Alexander Guenther who fought off heat cramps to close out his tie-breaker (7-2). The girls had a strong showing that included a sweep in doubles 3-0, with a final come from behind victory for Aarya & Vanessa (8-5).
Warriors start off season ranked in the State
The Westwood Warriors are ranked #23 in the state of Texas in Team Tennis. They have compiled a strong record of 8-2 so far this season with losses to Westlake and Lake Travis. Westwood went 3-0 the past week, knocking off Pflugerville, Stony Point and the Johnson Jaguars out of San Antonio. Strong performances by Miguel Alda, Colin Markes, Sujaan Lal, Izzy Mozdzierz-Monico, Audrey Scott and Milan Arimilli. The whole team is playing well and raising each other’s games. The team is looking to repeat as District Champs and have started strong in their District play. The Warriors know they will have to step up even more if they want to beat Georgetown this Friday. The Freshman cruise to victory over Westlake!
The freshman opened up the season with their first full team match against the Westlake Chapparals with a 20-5 victory!
9th/JV open with a victory over Stony Point Varsity
A combination of freshman and junior varsity players challenged the Stony Point Varsity team on Tuesday, August 30 at the Westwood Courts. Westwood came away with 14-5 victory. Big win for Aditiya Rao & Siddarth Kumar at number one boys doubles (6-3, 6-4). The entire girls team was impressive giving up only one loss in singles and none in doubles. This a great start and we are looking forward to another amazing tennis season!
Varsity off to a great start!
The Westwood Varsity tennis team opened there season with a dominating victory over Cedar Park (17-2) on Friday, August 12th. Impressive wins from the newcomers and veterans alike. For the 1st match of the season, the Warriors came away victors but still have many things to work on.
2011-2012 Westwood Freshman Team
Congratulations to the 2011-2012 Westwood Freshman Tennis Team. Tryouts were the toughest they have ever been this year with over 35 players trying out for the freshman team. After going up to Waco to compete in Regionals, The Warriors are back at State! Maya and Isabella Mozdzierz-Monico have qualified for State in Girls Doubles. They played their best tennis of the year in reaching the finals of Regionals. The top two in each division qualify for state. They are now one of the final 8 teams in Texas. Both girls played great and represented Weestwood very well. Congrats to both of them on their success and we wish them luck at State. The UIL State Championships will be at Pennick-Allison Tennis center at the University of Texas May 9-10.
Freshmen/JV play great at DISTRICTS
After watching the Varsity play well at the District Championships, the Freshmen and Junior Varsity Teams knew they had to step up and perform just as well. With the freshmen playing at McNeil High School and the JV playing at Westwood, they knew the pressure was on. A long season of practice and work was put to the test for both teams. Westwood wins individual District Championships
After another year of hard work, the New Regime has more hardware to show off. This past wednesday, the Westwood Warriors showed up to Old Settlers park for the Spring Individual District Tournament. Every Warrior had a strong showing with the team becoming overall Girl’s District Champion for the 2nd straight year and runner up for the boys. Strong performances by all of the team contributed to this effort. The top two in each event qualify for Regionals in Waco. Regionals will be held at Waco Regional Tennis Center on April 18th-21st.
