Warriors conquer the court

Westwood Varsity Tennis kicked off the 2015-2016 year with a big win against Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. The  Varsity team knew they had a tough match against Seven Lakes High School since they had a home court advantage and was ranked # 7 in the state.

“I was super pumped to play Seven Lakes and knew that this match would really test me as a player,” Pia Cadar ‘17 said.

At one point, Seven Lakes was up in every match on court and Westwood knew that to come out victorious, they would need to step up their game.The intensity increased when the schools were tied at four matches. Westwood lined up along the fence: encouraging, motivating and supporting the team as it inched its way to victory.

“When I saw that some of my teammates were losing, I cheered them on and helped them get their head in the game,” Shabad Ahluwalia ‘16 said.

One of the toughest matches on the court was Alec Baskerville ‘17 and Alex Wang ‘16 doubles match. They had won the first set 7-5 and lost the second 4-6, stakes were high and Westwood players filed into the bleachers ready to root them on. The tiebreaker was very close, and ended with a crafty dropshot from Baskerville. Despite the humidity, the players pulled through and cheered each other throughout the entire match and won 15-4.

“The encouragement from my teammates helped encourage me and Alec to try our best,” Alex Wang ‘16 said.
